I've finished my FILM!
For the past 3 years I have been editing and shooting interview for a film about a group of my friends. Please feel free to share the trailer X Now to enter it into Film Festivals so I can share these amazing stories and my huge admiration for this group of amazing people x
Through first person interviews and archive material the film shares stories of growing up Black and Queer in 1970s and 80s Britain.
Navigating youth in this period of cultural and political turbulence the protagonists tackled things their own way. Fiercely individual, these rare & vividly recounted memories tell of a singular determination and of resisting definition, through dance, art, fashion and music. The importance of family stands out, whether a parent or a group of like minded friends, 'you needed somewhere to go' where you felt good about yourself'.
London is the city that hosted their lives and its alternative nightclub scene provided sanctuary even if only for a moment. The film reminds us of the importance of representation and that by ‘just being there’ you are influential.
